The unsaturated zone – a neglected component of nature
نویسنده
چکیده
The unsaturated zone and the saturated/unsaturated interface region are important links between groundwater and the land surface. They provide storage capacity for both water and contaminants; a reactor medium for physical, chemical and biological processes; a delay time between the release of a contaminant into the unsaturated zone and its influx into the saturated zone and, a domain for the lateral and vertical transport of gases. We highlight some of the properties associated with these domains providing results of studies conducted in the phreatic Coastal Plain aquifer of Israel for the last 30 years. 4 D. Ronen, S. Sorek

Petrology, geochemistry, and petrogenesis of mafic dykes from the Kermanshah Ophiolite in Sahneh-Harsin area of Western Iran
The Kermanshah ophiolite complex is a part of the Mediterranean–Zagros–Oman Tethyan ophiolites, located in the structural–tectonic zone of western Iran in the northern part of the Zagros main thrust. Doleritic sheeted dykes are well exposed within the ophiolite in the south of Sahneh. These dykes contain high MgO, Na2O, low TiO2 (2O5, and K2O contents, and high FeOt/MgO and LILE/HFSE ratios. Th...
متن کاملDescription the Design with Nature in Bio-Architecture and urban design
The relation between nature and human considers different periods. At first it was bio-utilization which degrades the value of nature as a source of energy and material. After revolution in science development and attention to the damages which they made to environment, they tried to change their look to this issue and expand the mean of relation between human and nature. Birth of such word l...
متن کاملImpacts of Unsaturated Zone Soil Moisture and Groundwater Table on Slope Instability
The combined effect of soil moisture in unsaturated soil layers and pore-water pressure in saturated soil layers is critical to predict landslides. An improved infinite slope stability model, that directly includes unsaturated zone soil moisture and groundwater, is derived and used to analyze the factor of safety’s sensitivity to unsaturated zone soil moisture. This sensitivity, the change in t...
متن کاملConsequences of varied soil hydraulic and meteorological complexity on unsaturated zone time lag estimates.
The true efficacy of a programme of agricultural mitigation measures within a catchment to improve water quality can be determined only after a certain hydrologic time lag period (subsequent to implementation) has elapsed. As the biophysical response to policy is not synchronous, accurate estimates of total time lag (unsaturated and saturated) become critical to manage the expectations of polic...
متن کاملAn Analysis of the Effect of Hydraulic Parameters on Radionuclide Migration in an Unsaturated Zone
Decommissioning of a retired Training, Research, Isotope production, General Atomics (TRIGA) research reactor facility has been performed for the reuse of the decommissioned site. The residents adjacent to the decommissioned site should be safe from radiation exposure. Radionuclides around the decommissioned site were first distributed on the site surface, and then later moved from the surface ...
